BITE!!! Not a softener. You need to be careful with this product as too much will lock you down. This prep works great on Maxxis EL tires to get them the bite you want. The original application requires at least 8 days to work into the tire and THE TIRES MUST BE SCUFFED OR SANDED TO REMOVE THE OUTER "SKIN" FOR BEST RESULTS. Generally, high grip kart tires such as HT's, Firestones, and Vegas will get locked down with this prep unless your track is very slick. DIRT STOCK CAR RACERS USE A LOT OF THIS STUFF!!! For Maxxis EL tires at the track, mix 1 part of SST5 Purple with 4 parts Xylene.
- When you come in from the track, clean the tires by wiping them with a clean, dry, towel. If heavy dirt build-up requires that you use a cleaner, use Blue Tire Wash.
- Apply the prep mixture early so it has time to dry. You will use less and less as the track gets more and more bite. Use less on tires that need less grip(LR tire), and more on tires that need more grip(LF tire). You are only trying to get initial bite so the tires start to work on their own.
- Softening DO NOT over-prep EL tires. The have more bite than you think and softening them below 55 on the durometer makes them slower. EL tires need to be prepped on the inside of the tread area (not the sidewalls) with 3 or more wipes of a 50/50 mix of Track Tac SST & Tire Tuff before being mounted. Each coat should be wet enough to look wet, but not so much that it runs. Allow each coat to dry before the next coat. More coats = softer tire. Additional softening and grip can be had by putting multiple coats of Tire Tuff Mint on the outside of the tire. This needs to be done at least a week before racing the tires. Not for highway use.
